“Israel and the Nations” is an article I wrote in 1993. This article was sent to various academic journals. All the journals declined publication. However, I later discovered that a leading scholar of The Book of Revelation had quoted from my article without the full customary referencing of my work. Here is a link to Dr J M Court’s chapter in The Johannine Literature with an introduction by R Alan Culpepper, one of the world’s leading Johannine scholars. Dr Court’s references to Marx and J J Collins and A M Farrer from pages 247 – 254 are all taken from my article as you will see if you follow my link to it. But first here is the link to Dr Court’s chapter in The Johannine Literature: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=qVOD0PhayhsC&pg=PA247&lpg=PA247&dq=ken+durkin+and+revelation&source=bl&ots=Tf3nEJpYBr&sig=15oT0Ny8hW5gTJa8b9PPP4rwxGk&hl=en&ei=CygfTfbpKJO7hAecgoW3Dg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CDEQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q&f=false

Dr John M Court was very gracious and apologetic when I contacted him about it. My article begins as follows:

ISRAEL AND THE NATIONS IN REVELATION 11:15-14:20

The Book of Revelation claims to be a revelation received by the risen Jesus Christ from “God” who, by means of an angel, passed the information to “John” on the island of Patmos probably during the reign of Emperor Domitian (Rev 1:1). It was a revelation of events that “must soon take place”(1:1; 22:6) culminating in the return of the risen Lord “soon” (3:11; 22:7,12,20). Despite the failure of this prophecy, the Book of Revelation was eventually accepted into the canon of Scripture. But is it possible for this text to have any value as a meaningful discourse today when its central message about the return of the Risen Lord was mistaken?

My answer to the question can be found by following the link: http://kendurkin.com.gridhosted.co.uk/?page_id=2

I used to be in a Johannine Corpus chatgroup and I’ve just come across a post I sent in 2000. It’s about something I’d completely forgotten about in relation to the Beloved Disciple remaining alive until the Risen Lord’s return: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/johannine_literature/message/687
